Mustafa Desai
Prospective Labour Candidate for Queen’s Park
I was born in 1965 in India and moved to Blackburn with my family when I was 2 years old.
I attended Audley Primary and Everton High School then continued my further education in the computer engineering field at Blackburn Technical College and Preston College.
I have been fortunate enough to remain in employment since completing my studies in 1987. After an initial spell of a couple of years in the computer industry, I have served the last two decades in the communications sector; gradually progressing from engineering into management and currently working for a major private company as a Data Transmission Designer. I undertook further studies in 2001 at the University of Central Lancashire and completed my teaching qualification in 2003 and I now teach Information and Communication Technology part-time at Preston College.
Over the years I have had a widespread involvement in working with the local community including charity work, youth engagement and community support work from both a social and religious perspective. The aspect that has kept me motivated and I enjoy most about community work is the opportunity to take up people’s challenges and issues and try to make a difference in their lives.
Having grown up in the Audley and the Queen’s Park area, I have a deep passion to give something back to the community. I feel I already know a lot of people and have a good understanding of the needs of the community and, if elected, I intend to take on board these challenges and make a positive contribution by teaming up with the existing Labour Councillors to give Queen’s Park an effective representation.
I have been a member of the Labour party for a number of years and have been actively engaged in meetings and as a local election campaign volunteer.
Away from my busy day to day schedule I take up a number of leisure pursuits such as reading, travel, photography and sports.
